About John William Beveridge

William Beveridge, born in the village of Craigh Tough Aberdeenshire in July 1821 and died Chapel of Garioch. He had a true artistic flare. Violins are beautifully modelled and finished, Scroll is well cut, Tailpieces are elaborately carved. This violin and another instrument comes direct from the descendants of William Beveridge who live in the USA today and looking to see the violins come back home to Scotland and played.

About the Violin

This is the second violin on sale by William and labelled William Beveridge Fecit Tough 1890.   The one piece highly flamed back has matching ribs and scroll. The front made from wonderful two-piece tight grain spruce.  Unlike the other violins by William Beveridge this one has no monogram.   Stamped under the button W. Beveridge Tough.  William is renowned for his well made and elaborate tailpieces this tailpiece is by him although not so elaborate.

The Sound

This violin having a silky-smooth tone, dark and with an evenness across the strings. This violin would be well placed in any playing environment. Has to be heard to appreciate this mellow tone.
